DSLR Assistant is a macOS app published by KAAsoft ("we," "us," "our"). This page explains what information DSLR Assistant collects and why. We kept it short, because there isn't much to explain: the app collects almost nothing.
What we collect
The only information DSLR Assistant sends anywhere is your purchase history — which subscription or one-time purchase you have active, if any. This is handled by RevenueCat, a subscription-management service we use so the app knows whether Pro features are unlocked. This information is not linked to your identity — there's no name, no email, no account — and we never use it to track you across other apps or websites.
We do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any other contact information
- Analytics or usage data
- Crash reports or diagnostic data
- Your location
- Advertising identifiers
Your photos and videos stay on your Mac
When you connect a camera and shoot with DSLR Assistant, your photos and videos are saved directly to a folder on your Mac that you choose. The app reads and writes these files locally, using Apple's standard security-scoped bookmarks. Nothing about your photos, your camera, or your files is ever sent to us or to anyone else.
Purchases
DSLR Assistant's Pro tier is sold through the Mac App Store as a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription, or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Apple, not us, processes every payment and manages your subscription. All we receive back is a purchase record (via RevenueCat) confirming which plan is active, so the app can unlock the right features.
Choosing "Manage Subscription" inside the app opens Apple's own subscription management page (apps.apple.com) in your browser — that's a link, not a data transfer.
Network connections
DSLR Assistant makes exactly two kinds of outbound connections:
- To RevenueCat's servers, to verify your purchase status.
- To apps.apple.com, only when you choose "Manage Subscription" — this opens your browser, it doesn't happen automatically.
DSLR Assistant does not otherwise connect to the internet. Tethering, shooting, and file management all happen locally between your Mac and your camera over USB.
Contacting support
If you write to us through the contact form or by email, we receive your name, email address, and whatever you put in the message. We use them only to reply to you, and we don't share them with anyone. Messages from the form are delivered to our Google Workspace mailbox.
Children
DSLR Assistant is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change what DSLR Assistant collects, we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above.
